Project Overview
This project was a redesign case study for Stake, an online betting and casino platform, exploring how the existing product experience could be reimagined for greater clarity, usability, and visual polish. As a case study, the work focused on identifying weaknesses in the current experience and proposing a thoughtfully redesigned alternative, demonstrating both critical UX analysis and strong visual design execution.
Project Goals
The goals of the Stake redesign case study were to demonstrate a clear, defensible design process for tackling a dense, real-time product experience; to improve visual hierarchy across competing elements like live odds, promotions, and account information; to preserve the sense of speed and excitement core to the betting experience while reducing clutter and confusion; and to produce a polished, well-reasoned case study suitable for showcasing strong UX problem-solving skills.
Project Challenges
The challenge in redesigning a platform like Stake lies in the density and speed of the product; betting and casino platforms are packed with live odds, game options, promotions, and account information all competing for a user's attention, often under real time pressure as odds and events change quickly. The redesign needed to bring order to that density without slowing users down or removing the sense of speed and excitement that keeps users engaged, all while being mindful of responsible design patterns given the sensitive nature of gambling products. Establishing a clear visual hierarchy across an interface with so many simultaneous, competing elements, live odds, game categories, promotional banners, and account balances, was the central design problem to solve.
My Approach
I approached the Stake redesign by first conducting a thorough audit of the existing experience, identifying the specific areas where visual clutter, inconsistent hierarchy, or unclear navigation were creating friction for users. From there, I rebuilt the core information architecture, establishing clearer separation between browsing and discovery, active betting and live odds tracking, and account and balance management, so each mode of use had its own clean, focused space rather than everything competing on a single crowded screen. I redesigned the visual system with a more refined color palette and typographic hierarchy to help users quickly distinguish between live, upcoming, and settled markets, and paid particular attention to how promotional content was presented so it stayed visible without overwhelming the core betting experience
What I Delivered
I delivered a complete redesign case study including an audit of the existing platform's usability issues, a reimagined homepage and sports or game discovery experience, redesigned live odds and betting slip interfaces, a cleaner account and balance management section, and a refreshed visual design system covering color, typography, and core components, all presented as a structured before-and-after case study demonstrating the reasoning behind each major design decision.
The Outcome
As a case study, the redesign served as a strong demonstration of how a genuinely dense, high-stakes product experience could be reorganized for clarity without losing its sense of speed and excitement. The work was well received as a portfolio piece specifically because it tackled a product category, real-time betting, that is notoriously difficult to design well, and it showcased the ability to bring structure and visual hierarchy to an interface with an unusually high number of simultaneous competing elements.
